The selection of our mares is of the utmost importance to us. Genetically, the mare and stallion represent an equal 50/50 percent ratio for the unborn foal. However, many experts agree that the foal's inherited traits from the mare are 60% or greater, particularly for conformation, talent and temperament. The mare has undeniable influence on temperament and formative behaviour, as she spends the first 5-7 months passing on these characteristics to her foal. At Beau Cheval, we provide our mares with consistent handling as well as herd interaction, in order to maximise their ability to be "the best mother possible" and to pass on desirable behavioural traits to their foal. Our mares are selected for their conformation, temperament, intelligence, looks, ability and are all from proven bloodlines.
